The Leisurecraft Barrel Sauna is the shape most people picture when they think of a backyard sauna, and the shape is not decoration. Heat rises, runs along the curve of the ceiling and falls back down the far wall, so a barrel circulates naturally and has no cold corners to heat. That is why a barrel gets to temperature faster than a square room of the same volume, and why the bench beside the door is nearly as warm as the bench beside the heater.
It is built in Eastern White Cedar rather than the Western Red most outdoor saunas use. Eastern White runs cooler to the touch at the same air temperature, so the benches are comfortable to sit on bare. It carries a milder scent that doesn't overwhelm a small room at heat. And it is naturally rot and insect resistant without treatment, so it will sit outdoors through a Minnesota winter without a maintenance ritual of its own.
The staves are solid single-piece cedar, not laminate or veneer over a frame, milled to interlock so the barrel tightens on itself as the wood swells. Holding it together are marine-grade T6061 aluminum bands on threaded rods — the same alloy specified for saltwater hardware, because ordinary steel bands rust and stain the cedar within a season or two. Benches are 20 inches wide, which is enough to lie down on rather than perch.
Choosing your size
All three are the same 86.25-inch diameter. What changes is length, so you are choosing how many people sit down and how much yard it takes.
Harmony is the compact one at 79 inches deep, seating four. The basic model — solid wood benches, flat floor, no porch. It is the least expensive way into a real cedar sauna and it fits where the others won't.
Serenity at 94.5 inches seats five and adds an 18-inch covered porch with parallel benches outside the door. That porch is where you sit between rounds, and in cold weather it is the difference between stepping out into shelter and stepping out into weather. This is the size Leisurecraft sells most of.
Tranquility at 118 inches is the entertaining size, seating six — the same porch, plus two front windows and a removable flat floor that makes cleaning out a season's worth of use straightforward. It is the only one of the three with meaningfully more interior room rather than just more length: 317 cubic feet against 200.
The Halfmoon window package
Available on the Serenity and Tranquility. It replaces the small standard window with a large half-round glass panel in the front wall, and it changes the experience more than the photographs suggest: you sit facing a view rather than facing a wall. If the sauna is going somewhere with something worth looking at — trees, water, a garden — it is worth the difference. If it is going beside a fence, it is not.
The Halfmoon package is not offered on the Harmony. The front wall is too small to carry the glass.
What's included
Every barrel ships as a complete, usable sauna rather than a shell with a shopping list attached:
- The barrel, in solid Eastern White Cedar with marine-grade aluminum bands
- A correctly sized electric heater, including the rocks and safety railing it needs to run properly
- The flat floor heat shield that sits beneath the heater
- A starter accessory set — bucket, ladle, thermometer and sand timer
You will need a licensed electrician for the circuit. Everything else is in the crate.
Electrical Requirement: All three sizes require a licensed electrician and a dedicated 240V, 40A circuit on 8-gauge wire. No GFCI breaker is required. These are the manufacturer's guidelines; your electrician makes the final call based on the run and local code.
Lead Time: Approximately two months from order. Leisurecraft saunas are built to order rather than pulled from stock, and we would rather tell you that now than after checkout.
Built your way — what this page doesn't show
The builds above are the ones we'd recommend, not the limit of what's possible. These saunas are made to order, one at a time, and the factory will build them to spec. What you see here is configured for the way most people actually use a sauna. It is a fraction of what can be done.
To give you a sense of the real range:
- Wood-fired instead of electric. The barrel takes a wood burner comfortably — TimberGlow, Narvi Kaamos, Narvi Kuru or Narvi NC Black, with the chimney routed out the top, the side or the back to suit where the barrel sits. This is the single most requested change and we are happy to quote it.
- A different electric heater. We fit the Harvia KIP by default. The Homecraft Apex, Apex Mini, Revive and Revive Slim are all available, in several outputs, with WiFi or local touchpad control.
- A roof. Black asphalt shingle, black metal, or a knotty cedar bevel roof made specifically for the halfmoon barrels. A roof is worth considering anywhere with heavy snow load or falling debris.
- Finish, lighting and benches. Livos Alis penetrating oils in Light Teak, Black, Sesame or Bongossi. Sauna lighting and SaunaGlo LED bars. Alternative bench layouts, and an adjustable installation base in place of the flat floor plate.

Leisurecraft Shipping & Return Policy
This is a made-to-order freight item, and the delivery works differently than a parcel shipment. The terms below are specific to Leisurecraft and replace our general shipping and returns policy. Please read this section before ordering — the crate is large and the delivery needs planning.
- Delivery included. Leisurecraft saunas are built to order rather than pulled from stock, and they are delivered by dedicated freight to a residential address rather than by parcel carrier. That delivery is included in the price you see, so there is no separate freight charge at checkout.
- No additional freight charge within the continental USA. Alaska and Hawaii by quote.
- Curbside or end-of-driveway delivery by an 18-wheeler. The trucking company will not back into a driveway and is not responsible for unloading.
- Crate size, by size: Harmony 84" long, Serenity 96", Tranquility 120". All are 45" wide and 34" high and ship on a pallet. These are the manufacturer's figures, not estimates.
- Liftgate depends on which size you pick. Crates over 84 inches do not qualify, so the Serenity and Tranquility ship without one and you will need a forklift, a collection from the freight terminal, or a rented tilt-tow. The Harmony sits right at the limit, so a liftgate is usually possible but not guaranteed — confirm it with us at order. This is the single most common surprise on a freight sauna delivery.
- Inspect on arrival. Damage or missing-component claims must be filed within 30 days of receipt.
- Lead time: approximately two months.
Leisurecraft saunas are built to order, so the cancellation and return terms are tighter than most of what we carry. Worth reading before you order.
- 24-hour cancellation window. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours of being placed. After that the build has entered production and cannot be cancelled.
- No returns on Leisurecraft saunas under normal circumstances.
- If a return is authorized, a 25% restocking fee applies, plus all freight costs back to the factory.
- Arrived damaged? That is a freight claim, not a return, and must be reported within 30 days of receipt. Contact us and we will handle it with the manufacturer.
