A steam generator turns a tiled, enclosed shower you already have into a steam room. We carry one package today, SteamSpa's Black Series, in five sizes from 9 to 18 kW, so the choice is about your shower rather than the brand: its volume, its materials, and the circuit and plumbing it can take.
Not sure which size, or whether your shower qualifies? Send us the dimensions and we will confirm the size with SteamSpa before you order. If you want to know when this category grows, the sign-up at the bottom of the page is the place.
It needs a sealed room: a door that closes to the floor, walls that run to a ceiling of its own, and tile, stone or solid-surface panels over a waterproof substrate, not painted drywall. A ceiling sloped about two inches per foot keeps condensation off your head, and that is the change a contractor most often has to make.
What Size Generator Do I Need
Start with cubic feet, width by length by height. The package we carry runs 9 kilowatts for roughly 84 to 140 cubic feet, 10.5 for 126 to 168, 12 for 147 to 315, and dual-generator packages at 15 and 18 for larger rooms. Stone, glass and ceilings over seven feet push you up a size, and between sizes you go up. We confirm the size with the maker before you order.
What Power and Plumbing Does It Need
A dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to the generator and installed by a licensed electrician, plus a cold water feed and a drain. The generator lives outside the shower, in a closet, vanity, attic or basement within the maker’s run length. An inline water filter, changed every six months, is a condition of the warranty.
Do I Need a Licensed Installer
Yes. The package we carry requires one, and the warranty is void without it, so budget for a plumber and an electrician and keep their invoice. The warranty is lifetime on the generator and one year on the controls and accessories. Returns are unused and unopened only, within 30 days, with a 25 percent restocking fee, so size it right the first time.
