How to Choose a Wellness Lounger

Why the lounger is the easy part, and the questions that get a straight answer.

Recovery Reset Lounger in use in a home wellness room

This guide is written for two readers. If the lounger is for your home, sections one through five are the whole decision. If it is going into a spa, studio or clinic, section six is the one nobody writes for you. It covers the five loungers we carry, all made to order in the USA by one maker, Living Earth Crafts.

01What a Wellness Lounger Is, and What It Is Not
Section 01

What a Wellness Lounger Is, and What It Is Not

A wellness lounger is a powered recliner that eases you back into zero gravity, with your feet raised above your heart, and carries recovery devices so you can use several in one session. The devices are the product. The lounger underneath is close to the same on every model we carry.

It is not a massage chair. A massage chair works with rollers that travel along a track. These loungers have no rollers. What they carry instead depends on the model: sound you feel through the frame, compression boots, a massage gun, an LED light pad, gentle vibration in the cushions, and heat.

The Five We Carry, Side by Side

Every model runs from a standard 110V outlet, is 33 inches wide and 63 inches long fully reclined, and adjusts electronically at the back and feet. Every Reset model also has a dual-zone warmer and a grounding strip.

Ultima Reset LoungerMind-Sync 2.0, Celluma Pro, Normatec Elite, Hypervolt 3 ProEvery device in the collection, on one lounger

Two details the names hide. Relaxor vibration in the cushions comes only on the Recovery Reset; the Ultima does not carry it. And the Ultima's massage gun is the newer Hypervolt 3 Pro, where the Recovery Reset has the Hypervolt 2 Pro.

03What Each Device Does
Section 03

What Each Device Does

Mind-Sync 2.0 — Four transducers inside the frame send sound through the cushions while you listen on noise-dampening headphones, so the session is felt as well as heard. Twelve programs run from a touch screen, most of them 25 minutes, with one 60-minute sleep program.

Normatec Compression Boots — Boots that inflate in sequence around the legs. The Ultima's Normatec Elite boots run seven levels and fit heights from 5'4" to 6'3".

Hypervolt Massage Gun — A handheld percussion massager, stored on the lounger and recharged on the unit on the Ultima.

Celluma LED Light — A pulsed LED pad in blue, red and near-infrared, sold as an FDA-cleared, Class II over-the-counter device. The Ultima carries the Celluma Pro, with two panels that work on their own.

Warmer and Grounding Strip — A dual-zone warmer embedded in the cushions, and a grounding strip. Heat and vibration arrive installed. The only part fitted on site is the Mind-Sync tablet arm.

04Space, Power and Delivery
Section 04

Space, Power and Delivery

Footprint — Measure the room at full recline: 63 inches long and 33 inches wide, plus room to walk around it and to reach the devices stored on its sides.

Power — A standard 110V household outlet. No electrician and no plumbing.

Built to Order — Each lounger is built after the order is placed, then ships by freight. Ask for the timing before you order, not after.

Inspect Before You Sign — Freight arrives on a truck. Check the box and the lounger before signing, and write any damage on the paperwork. Signing a clean receipt for damaged freight is what makes a claim hard to win.

05Warranty and Returns
Section 05

Warranty and Returns

The Warranty is Split by Part — On the loungers we carry, the frame is covered for life for the original owner. Foam and upholstery are covered for 3 years, motors and controls for 2 years, and the built-in devices for 1 year as accessories. Read past the headline: the part most likely to need service has the shortest cover.

Returns — Ask the window, the restocking fee and who pays return freight on something this size. On ours it is 30 days, a 25% restocking fee and return freight at your cost.

Custom Orders — A color or finish the maker has to source for you is usually not returnable. You should hear that before you order, not after.

06If the Lounger Is Going to Earn Money
Section 06

If the Lounger Is Going to Earn Money

A spa, studio or clinic uses a lounger many times a day, with a different person each time.

Commercial Cover — Ask whether the warranty is the same in commercial use, in writing. The Ultima's adjustment is described as commercial grade; that is not the same as a commercial warranty.

Hygiene Between Clients — Upholstery, headphones and boots are shared. Ask what the maker recommends for cleaning, and which cleaners would void the upholstery warranty.

Session Length — The Mind-Sync programs mostly run 25 minutes, which sets how many sessions fit in an hour.
